felt stuff and classmate questions

I'm sure most of you who have any idea that my blog exists have already seen the latest projects I have been working on. But just in case (mom - i guess that means you) here are a few...all made of felt, my new favorite thing!

I know that I am not the only one who has benefited from the crafty companionship and constant inspiration that the Red Velvet Online Class has offered. The topic keeps coming up in the Flickr group, in our "live chats" as well as in comments across all of our blogs. So, I am working up some plans for us all to stay connected once the class is over (I'll keep you updated as things progress). I know how connecting daily with so many creative folks has affected my life but I am wondering how it has affected my fellow classmates. Would you be willing to share? Or maybe answer some questions?

1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class? The projects, the chats, the new friendships, learning new techniques, learning how to navigate Flickr???

2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"? (I hate to use the term "real life" because this is real life...I guess I mean "in person")

3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more?

4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class?

It would be SO great to hear from you. Please share!

  1. LOVE your projects and I'm excited about the idea of staying in touch! I've only been in on a few chats but it's so nice to get all the Flickr comments - and to comment on other's projects too!

    1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class? The projects, the chats, the new friendships, learning new techniques, learning how to navigate Flickr???

I'm loving everything! I guess the projects are my fav. I have been making things to sell for awhile now and it's nice to make things for myself for a change. I actually find it more freeing to be given a project to interpret in my own way. I feel like I have more time to spend on technique and the sewing projects have given me soo much practice. I can actually half-way sew now and have gotten very familiar with my machine!

    2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"? (I hate to use the term "real life" because this is real life...I guess I mean "in person")

I do! I used to belong to a craft mafia and now I organize a craft fair in my town so I meet lots of nice, crafty people. It's nice to have online friends too.

    3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more?

    Yes!!!

    4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class?

I had been following Elsie's blog for awhile and am so in love with her style and talent! I want everything she makes but I can't afford it all of course...so I thought the class would be the next best thing. I also saw the list of sewing projects and thought it would be good practice. And all the decorating projects would be good for my apartment! And then I found Rachel's blog and she's a creative genius as well so I just couldn't help myself.

  2. 1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class? The projects, the chats, the new friendships, learning new techniques, learning how to navigate Flickr???

    - New ideas and inspiration...and excuses to buy fun crafty stuff. :)

    2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"? (I hate to use the term "real life" because this is real life...I guess I mean "in person")

    - Not really...I think most of my friends think I'm weird...Anybody in the Twin Cities area out there???

    3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more?

    - Yes, but unfortunately life has gotten in the way and I haven't been able to take advantage of the inspiration as much as I'd like. Hopefully it'll stick around in my head, though!

    4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class?

    - I've had some pretty crappy luck lately and I wanted a distraction, some motivation, and some inspiration. I think I also wanted to feel PART of something...

  3. I'm so glad you're working on this! The other classmates are truly an inspiration and they always brighten my day!

    1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class? The projects, the chats, the new friendships, learning new techniques, learning how to navigate Flickr???

All of the above (minus the Flickr - I already knew how to use that, lol)!!

    2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"? (I hate to use the term "real life" because this is real life...I guess I mean "in person")

Sadly, no. None of my friends are into arts and crafts like I am, and it's hard to find anyone [my age] that enjoy the same things. -sigh- Which is why I'm so happy I have found all you "pretty" people! :)

    3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more?

Absolutely! I basically took the class to learn new things and up my creativity. Needless to say, it worked :) Now I'm trying to teach myself new things everyday - and I'm always making something! lol

    4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class?

Well, like I mentioned, I really needed the inspiration boost :) I always wanted to take an online class (since nothing like this was offered in my town) to learn new things.

  4. 1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class? The projects, the chats, the new friendships, learning new techniques, learning how to navigate Flickr???

i needed inspiration to create things! and althoug i've only really done a handful of projects, i can safely say thats a handful of projects that i wouldn't have created otherwise! and the firends are just so INSPIRING and i love it. i have a whole new blog tag in my google reader for "RVA class peeps" :)

    2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"? (I hate to use the term "real life" because this is real life...I guess I mean "in person")

my sister! but that's it. we want to know where all you crafty people find each other in the real world.

    3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more?

    oh yes!

    4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class?

the fact that i felt like i NEEDED some outside motivation... and i decided that i had wasting money so if i spent $60 on the class i would actually do some projects. worked!

  5. Love that you're doing this!
    1. Fave aspect?
I truly love everything about this class! The inspiring people, learning new techniques and getting outside of my comfort zone to create things that have intimidated me or that I had just never thought to do.

    2. Hang out w/ crafties?
Not really. A few of my gf's scrapbook occassionaly, but they're more of the traditional style and can't understand how I like to mix it up and have fun on my pages. None of them do any other crafts, though. :( Anybody live in Michigan and wanna craft together?

    3. Absolutely! This class has inspired me beyond measure! Thank you all for sharing your creative gifts!

    4. My motivation for taking this class: I took Elsie's 1st online class and fell in love with it! I adore her art and her as a person. How lucky can I be that she offered yet another class, and it was w/ Rachel! I love making new projects and all the inspiration that comes with!

  6. I love that picture with the felt letters. Felt has become a new fav or mine too!!

    1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class? The projects and being able to see exactly how they are created. I have a hard time with making things come to life. And the great inspiring friends. I think that the one thing most of us have in common is that we really don't have other friends who are creative and like to craft.
    2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"? haha, the above question kinda answers that...I do not. But I am starting to make more by putting myself out there more and not be scared to tell people how much I am obsessed with craftiness.
    3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more? I think it has helped to learn new things, try different mediums.

    4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class? Creating cute fun stuff. A lot of the classes you can take at Joanns or other places are too old school style. I love Elsie's style.

  9. Your blog is so cute. and that glasses holder is my favourite. ever. so good! i think i might work on that tonight. [: i'm so behind. haha.

    1. What has been your favorite aspect of the class?
learning to apply my crafty-ness (haha, i love that it always makes me feel cheeky and sneeky!) to everyday, practical things. and getting to know more of the people out there that are fun and 'indie' (if you will).

    2. Do you hang out with crafty friends in "real life"?
a lot of my friends like my crafty stuff, and they are definitely creative. i love that we can play 'art' together. but i also have non-creative friends too (like my boyfriend... haha, he's a bookworm)

    3. Has taking the class inspired you to create more?
yeah, i think so. although it's hard to tell because i do art full-time at school and etc so...

    4. What do you think your motivation was for taking the class?
to see a bit more of how Elsie and Rachel worked, to have an excuse to do something fun and to learn some new stuff. also meet new people!!

    keep in touch with meeeee, i love what you make;
